is the process of integrating and  familiarizing a new employee into the organization. Onboarding may last anywhere from a few weeks to a year, but the most effective onboarding usually lasts at least a few months. Ideally, employees will feel confident and competent when the onboarding process is complete.

Onboarding is often confused with orientation, however it is a more comprehensive process than filling out the required paper work.

What is an Onboarding Process;

First impressions can have a lasting impact. Your company’s employee onboarding process is your chance to make a good first impression with new employees. This process should be about making the new employee feel welcomed, valued and prepared to succeed in their new role.

Onboarding begins the moment a candidate accepts a job offer and ends when a new employee is fully integrated and performing as expected. Whether or not an organization provides all of the onboarding elements in the list, it’s a wise investment to provide all new employees with a thorough, efficient, and consistent introduction to their new organization.

The Onboarding process should help new hires/ employees;

  • Set expectations
  • Building relationships with other employees
  • Creating confidence and trust in the brand
  • Create a clear definition of roles and boundaries.

 

Onboarding activities includes different individual processes that create an experince for the new employee they include;

  1. New Employee Paperwork which includes the new employee documentation such as offer letter, employee forms, and other paper work the organisation needs
  2. Welcome employees, Prior to the new employee’s first day, send an announcement to all employees, either in-person or via email, welcoming them to the company. The announcement should tell them the new employee’s role, a bit about their experience, what they’ll be doing at your company and encourage other employees to welcome them.
  3. Onboard and Orient new employees about your company culture, policies and job expectations. Help new employees understand what’s expected of them in their new role and also envision future possibilities.
  4. Trainings; It is imperative to take your new hire through the different trainings required by the brand.
  5. Follow Up; constantly follow up with the new employees to ensure they are engaged with the brand and are performing as expected.
  6. Employee Engagement and Team Building; during the first few weeks, engage your new hire in activities that make them bond with other memebers of the team.
  7. Track and Analyze; create and send a candidate experience survey so you know how your program is performing.
